If you have non-emergency quesitons, the doctors do call backs in a timely manner. If you have an emergency after business hours, the answering service will page Dr. Makres or Dr. Hommel on their beeper or they will take your number and they will call you back within an hour or two, depending on their schedule. Of course, if it is a situation in which you feel needs immediate attention, call 911 or go to the emergency room at Bristol Regional Hospital. You can call us at the office at any time and we will try to answer your questions or direct them to the appropriate person. All telephone consultations are of course without a charge.

Our Office: We have approximately 4,500 square feet of office space, which is decorated with children in mind. All three of the waiting rooms are equiped with televisions for the children. There is a main waiting room, which is for the sick patients, which also has a bathroom facility equiped with changing table. Also, we have two well child waiting rooms. Each of the exam rooms have been decorated with murals, we also provide childrens books.
Recently, we have made the switch to Electronic Medical Records. Our doctors and nurse practioners carry laptop computers into the rooms with them, which provide them with access to all your childs medical records. All of your information will be documented in the system via scanning and other methods. Joseph Makres is in charge of all technical operations as well as managing the website.
Dr. Makres is a native of Bristol, Tennessee. He graduated from Bristol Tennessee High School, circa 1967. He attended college at the University of Richmond, graduating with a BS degree in Chemistry, circa 1971. He attended UT Medical College in Memphis, Tennessee, graduating with a M.D. degree in 1974. He completed his Pediatric speciality residency in the Navy, serving in Bethesda, Maryland, as well as, aboard navy ships in the Atlantic ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Additionally, he spent two years at the Naval Hospital at Cherry Point Marine Air Base before returning to Bristol and opening this practice in January of 1980. Dr. Makres is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and serves as a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. It is with the upmost pride and love that he has dedicated his life to the care of children.
Dr. Hommel grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. She received a B.S. degree in Biology from East Tennessee State University in 2001 and received her M. D. degree from Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, Tennessee in 2005. Dr. Hommel completed her pediatric residency training in Shreveport, Louisiana. She spent two years working as a teaching physician in the pediatric clinic, emergency room, and pediatric sedation unit in Shreveport, Louisiana. She also worked at a pediatric acute care clinic in Columbus, Georgia. She joined our office in 2011. Dr. Hommel is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and serves as a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She lives in Bristol, TN with her husband and two children.
